LOS ANGELES (MEDIA GENERAL) — The 44th Annual American Music Awards will take place Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Gigi Hadid and Jay Pharoah will host the world's biggest fan-voted award show, which, with its over-the-top performances and elaborate outfits, rarely disappoints.
Performers scheduled for 2016 include Green Day, who will kick off a European tour in 2017, and Sting, who recently released a new album, "57th and 9th."
Lady Gaga, The Chainsmokers, Fifth Harmony, James Bay and Bruno Mars, among others, are also slated to take the stage.
Nominations were announced last month.

Beyoncé and The Chainsmokers follow with four nominations each, and Bryson Tiller, Twenty One Pilots, Carrie Underwood, Fetty Wap and The Weeknd each earned three nods.
Fans can still vote for New Artist of the Year. The finalists are Alessia Cara, The Chainsmokers, DNCE, Shawn Mendes and Zayn. Voting is open until 8:59 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Rihanna and Carrie Underwood are up for the big Artist of the Year award.

The American Music Awards will air live Sunday, November 20 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
