A 60-year-old man, Godwin Anukwa, was yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting his daughter, 8, inserted his finger in her private parts.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to count charge of child defilement before Chief Magistrate Yewande Aje-Afunwa.
Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Peter Nwangwu said the defendant committed the offence in March at Airport Estate, Isheri, Lagos.
The defendant, according to him, was arrested after the case was reported.
Chief Magistrate Aje-Afunwa granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties each in the like sum. The sureties, she said, should be gainfully employed, adding that they must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
The adjourned till July 17.
